The Honda Vezel, Fit Hybrid and Grace are among the most common hybrids in Pakistan. Most run on a lithium-ion battery, not the NiMH pack people know from Toyotas, and that changes both the diagnosis and the price. A Honda hybrid battery usually fades over months rather than dying in a day. If you notice two or more of these signs, book a free diagnostic.
On the Fit GP1 it is the orange IMA light. On the Vezel, Fit GP5 and Grace you get a "Check Hybrid System" warning, often in Japanese on imported cars. The car may stop giving electric assist.
When the pack cannot store energy, the petrol engine does nearly all the work. The average slides towards that of an ordinary petrol car, worst of all in stop-and-go traffic.
The charge gauge drops from nearly full to a couple of bars within minutes, then refills after a little braking. Fast, large swings point to weak cells.
Idle-stop no longer switches the engine off at signals, or it restarts within seconds, because the battery cannot hold enough charge to run the electrics.
The i-DCD system relies on the electric motor to smooth out pulling away. With a weak pack there is less electric help, so creeping in traffic can feel jerky or hesitant. A battery does not fix a gearbox fault, though.
A scan may show hybrid battery codes such as P0A7F (battery pack deterioration) or P0A80 (replace hybrid battery pack). We read the codes free at your door.
The most common confusion we hear. Honda changed battery technology in 2013, so it depends on your generation.

These cars use Honda's i-DCD hybrid system: a 1.5-litre petrol engine, a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox with an electric motor built in, and a compact lithium-ion battery. Honda fitted lithium from the factory, so the correct replacement is always a lithium pack. A NiMH pack is not a like-for-like fit for these cars.
The older Fit Hybrid uses Honda's IMA system: a 1.3-litre engine with a thin electric motor between the engine and a CVT gearbox, powered by a nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery. It is a completely different pack, with a different size, voltage and connectors. It is the same chemistry Toyota uses in the Aqua, which is why people assume every hybrid battery is NiMH.
How to check yours: the chassis number in your registration book starts with the code in the table, for example RU3, GP5 or GP1. Send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will confirm.

Lithium-ion is tougher than NiMH, but Pakistani conditions are hard on any hybrid battery.
Lithium cells handle heat better than NiMH, but still lose capacity faster when hot. A Vezel parked in the summer sun gets very hot inside, and the battery is cooled with that same cabin air.
The battery has a small fan that pulls cabin air in through an intake vent near the rear seat. That vent is often covered by seat covers, bags or a child seat, or clogged with dust. With poor airflow the cells run hotter, the car uses the battery less, and the pack ages faster.
Many Vezels and Fits do school runs and short trips in heavy traffic, then sit parked for days. Standing for long periods with a low charge is hard on any battery; a 20 to 30 minute drive once or twice a week helps.
Most Vezels and Fits in Pakistan were used in Japan for several years before import. The battery in a 2015 Vezel is now over ten years old, whatever the odometer says.

Lithium. Every Vezel Hybrid (RU3/RU4), Fit Hybrid GP5/GP6 and Grace Hybrid (GM4/GM5) left the factory with a lithium-ion battery as part of Honda's i-DCD system, so the correct replacement is a lithium pack. Only the older Fit Hybrid GP1 (2010–2013) with the IMA system uses NiMH; if unsure, send us your chassis number.
There is no fixed number of years; heat, driving pattern and the years the car spent in Japan all matter. Lithium ages more slowly than NiMH, but most Vezels and Fits here are now old enough that weak packs are common. A new pack from us has a 5-year written warranty and, with a clear cooling vent, should comfortably cover it.
Sometimes. If only a few cells are weak and the rest are healthy, we can replace those cells and rebalance the pack from PKR 35,000. The other cells are the same age, so it is a shorter-term fix than a new battery, and we tell you honestly which option makes sense.
It can help, but only when the battery is the cause. A weak pack gives the i-DCD system less electric help at low speed, so pulling away can feel jerky; a healthy battery brings that help back. It will not fix a worn clutch, a gearbox fault or a software problem, and we tell you honestly if the problem lies there.
